Objective: Final project, personal narrative

Filming: I found the parks and nature in Boston to be really beautiful and moving so I filmed a lot of nature scenery.

Sound design: When I looked at the footage, I was reminded of a song called Forces of Attraction by Jóhann Jóhannsson from one of my favorite movies The Theory of Everything. Both the song and videos had a sense of melancholy that matched each other. As our film assignment had to be around 3 minutes, I adjusted the speed of the song to be longer than the original version.

Writing: From the footage I collected in Boston, I wanted to write a narrative, personal story that was related to the footage I got.

IAfter discussing my film idea with m, one of the most impactful and helpful questions she asked me was how to not make my film look like a home movie. From this, I had a lot of ideas: One of my favorite films is La La Land, and the films ending is a masterpiece. I wanted my film to have some of the montage qualities of the ending scene in La La Land; despite the ending being a compilation of home videos, the editing made it into a cinematic masterpeice. I also saw a film screening of Dracula and really liked the cinema projector sound, so I incorporated that into my film. I also took inspiration from Crush, a poetry book by Richard Siken.

Editing Process: I did sound design first; I then listened to the completed sound design of the film, and made this plan to help think of a script.
I then wrote the script based on the music, this is the final version after having a few drafts.
